There is a useful question behind every AI purchase: who will own this system after it starts running? A model choice is only one part of the answer. The workflow, operating cost, review process, and recovery path determine whether the investment remains useful.
Our view for 2027 is that the opportunity is in helping teams operate a small number of valuable systems well. That is a business hypothesis, not a market certainty or a guarantee of returns.
A forecast worth reading carefully
On 25 June 2025, Gartner predicted that over 40% of agentic AI projects would be cancelled by the end of 2027. Its stated concerns were rising costs, unclear business value, and inadequate risk controls. This is a forecast published in 2025, not an observed 2027 failure rate.
Gartner also advised choosing agents only where their use has a clear business case. We read that as a reason to examine the process and ongoing cost before committing to an elaborate build.
What this means for your next project
A useful buying decision should survive a quieter conversation than the demo. Ask how the workflow behaves on ordinary days, when inputs are incomplete, credentials expire, or the person who built it is unavailable.
| Before you approve | Ask for |
|---|---|
| A proposed outcome | A baseline, a measurement method, and a named owner. |
| An AI step | A reason why rules or a simpler model call are insufficient. |
| An operating budget | Expected usage, an upper bound, and what happens when it is exceeded. |
| A launch plan | Acceptance examples, review points, and a rollback route. |
| A support promise | Written coverage, response targets, and a maintenance allowance. |
Start with one workflow
A support queue, a document intake process, or a sales handoff can be a useful first scope. Each has a visible input, an owner, and an outcome you can measure. Choose the one with recurring volume and a team ready to review the results.
Estimate value conservatively. Time freed up is not automatically cash saved. Include human review, exception handling, API fees, maintenance, and the effort needed to change how the team works.
The maintenance question is part of the buying decision
Before launch, identify who can make a change, how a failure is detected, which records can be safely replayed, and how quality is checked when a model or an upstream API changes.
This is why Qixazow offers an audit, a scoped build, and ongoing care as separate steps. The scope can grow after evidence shows the first workflow is useful. Read our workflow decision framework before picking the architecture, and use the support scope to think through ownership after launch.
